ASM Job Description

Summary

The Assistant Store Manager has the responsibility for all store activities in the Store Manager's absence.  The Assistant Store Manager must exemplify the company's culture through the execution of the Mission and Values. Additionally, a successful Assistant Store Manager will demonstrate aggressive customer service at all times, effectively lead all store associates and is responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Manager. The Assistant Store Manager must have expertise in company culture, merchandising, shrink control and operational aspects of the store.  A successful Assistant Store Manager must be knowledgeable of the local market, customer base, seasonality opportunities, competitors and other specifics of the local market that may influence the business.  The Assistant Store Manager is a role model, a leader, problem-solver, and strategic thinker, who must manage her/his time to help achieve budgeted goals.  The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for instilling CNRG's Mission and Values in all associates and ensures the entire store operates according to CNRG's operational guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities, Include but are not limited to

 

  1. Exemplify and ensure CNRG's Mission and Values remain forefront in daily business as well as keeping all associates informed as to store and company expectations and news
  2. Ensure aggressive customer service is defined to associates and demonstrated as part of total store operations to exceed customer expectations
  3. Assist in achieving store budgeted goals through her or his key associates and/or her or his own actions
  4. Properly merchandising the retail sales floor to company set standards.
  5. Verify merchandise is received, stored and merchandised in all departments according to established operational and safety procedures.
  6. Monitoring delivery procedures to ensure merchandise is loaded and delivered on time and customers coming to pick up merchandise are processed promptly and courteously.
  7. Ensuring commercial sales associates are aggressively pursuing new commercial customers while maintaining aggressive customer service for current customers.
  8. Reporting any unusual occurrences promptly to the Store Manager.  Also, acting to solve problems immediately that require immediate attention.
  9. In the absence of the Store Manager leading all associates, providing direction and feedback on a consistent basis to ensure the store is being operated according to company policies and standards.
  10. Assisting with recruiting, selecting, and training associates
  11. Helping create a team environment throughout the store
  12. Must be certified in all areas in the store to include but are not limited to inside and outside forklifts, DOT, gate, receiving and service desk
  13. Must complete the HCI product knowledge course, be able to complete opening and closing procedures and master all store customer service skills to include, but are not limited to banding lumber, cutting keys, mixing paint, keying locks and cutting flooring
  14.  Other functions as assigned by her/his supervisor or company official.

A Successful Assistant Store Manager:

Must demonstrate excellent leadership and problem solving skills.  Be able to manage with limited supervision. They must have good oral/written communication skills in order to effectively interact with customers, vendors and other associates. A successful Assistant Store Manager must understand aggressive customer service and be team-oriented. They must have good management and organizational skills. Additionally, they must understand and interpret data presented in statistical or numerical form and be able to use it effectively in assessing and coordinating the merchandise and operational aspects of the store operations in the absence of the Store Manager. They must be detail oriented and handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.  They must be able to climb up and down ladders, reach, bend, twist, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs., handle large odd shaped items, and stock items in overhead areas.  Finally, they must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Team Leader Job Description

Summary

 

The Team Leader has the responsibility for all store activities in the absence of salaried store management.  A Team Leader must exemplify the company's culture through the execution of the Mission and Values.  Additionally, a successful Team Leader will demonstrate aggressive customer service at all times, effectively lead all store associates and is responsible for total store operations in the occasional absence of salaried store management. A Team Leader must develop expertise in company culture, merchandising, shrink control and operational aspects of the store and continuously focus on career development toward senior management.  A successful Team Leader must become knowledgeable of the local market, customer base, seasonality opportunities, competitors and other specifics of the local market that may influence the business.  A Team Leader is a role model, a leader and problem-solver, who must manage her/his time to help achieve budgeted store goals.  A Team Leader is responsible for instilling CNRG's Mission and Values in all associates and ensures the entire store operates according to CNRG's operational guidelines.

  7. Properly coordinating merchandise orders to keep up with sales trends and customer demands
  8. Completing cycle counts in a timely manner and reconciling any inventory discrepancies
  9. Demonstrating leadership and adhering to CNRG's Mission, Vision, and Values.
  10. Training all incoming new associates in product knowledge, selling skills, and customer service.
  11. Maintaining the appearance of the sales floor and stock areas to include stocking product
  12. Creating merchandise displays to improve sales and ease of shopping
  13. Working with other associates in order to complete tasks and achieve budgeted goals
  14. Cleaning the store and exterior areas of the facility
  15. Helping identify and correct safety problems or hazards.

Commercial Sales Job Description

Summary

 

The Commercial Salesperson plays an important role in driving commercial sales for the store.  They should strive to provide superior customer service by providing quality solutions for the business needs of our commercial customers while meeting the individual and store expectations for sales volume and gross margin.  The Commercial Salesperson must work effectively with customers, vendors, and other CNRG's associates.    

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities, Include but are not limited to:

 

  1. Presenting a professional, pleasant and positive customer service-oriented image when dealing with customers or vendors either in person or on the phone.
  2. Practice aggressive customer service to exceed our commercial customer's expectations.
  3. Maintaining the commercial sales area in the store in a neat and professional manner.
  4. Processing sales for all cash and credit commercial customers as well as consumer homebuilders and retail customers as needed.
  5. Possessing the technical expertise and product knowledge necessary to properly assist commercial customers with their questions.
  6. Meeting commercial sales and gross margin goals for the store.
  7. Producing materials lists upon request.
  8. Soliciting, properly documenting on the Quote Log, and promptly responding to quote requests.
  9. Maintaining CNRG's as an active bidder on all government and institutional bid lists. 
  10. Learning and understanding the proper use of CNRG's computer system(s) and other tools available.
  11. Soliciting potential customers to open a commercial credit account with Marvin's.
  12. Working effectively as a team with the commercial sales personnel at other locations, other associates and vendors to best serve our commercial customers and retail customers as needed.
  13. Becoming familiar with the local market and adapting quickly to changes in the market.
  14. Assisting store management in developing sales plans outlining target customers, growth opportunities, and sales and margin expectations.
  15. Advising store management of new product needs and changes.
  16. Participation in local builder associations (where available) and maintaining business contacts through these organizations.
  17. Assisting store management in maintaining competitive prices by monitoring local commercial competition.
  18. Daily calls to existing customers using the Weekly Commercial Call Report and personal visits, documenting these calls and following up on any issues in a timely manner.
  19. Active participation in weekly meetings with the store manager, assistant manager, yard manager, drivers, and outside team players to discuss any issues relating to the prior week, any upcoming potential issues, future product needs, evaluate sales for the prior week, evaluate opportunities for the upcoming week, and other items relating to commercial sales.
  20. Other functions as assigned by her/his supervisor or company official. .

 

A successful Commercial Salesperson:

 

Must have good oral/written communication skills in order to effectively interact with customers, vendors, and other associates in person and on the telephone.  Must be customer service-oriented and team-oriented.  Must have good organizational skills.  Must be able to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.  Must have a valid driver's license.  Must be able to climb up and down ladders, reach, bend, twist, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs., handle large odd shaped items, and stock items in overhead areas.  Must be able to accurately count and distinguish merchandise.  Must be able to learn to use a computer to complete customer transactions.  Must have building construction and product knowledge experience.  Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
